ABOUT US

Founded in 2007, the Outreach Social Care Project is a small grassroots, non profit organization that serves the disadvantaged and underprivileged communities in and around the City of Pietermartizburg in the KwaZulu Natal Province in Eastern South Africa.

The organization has been registered with the local government since 2008. The OSCAR project has focused its energy on promoting the following key areas for children, youth and women: Health, Education and Sustainable Livelihoods/Environmental Awareness, Human Rights and LGBTs Communities in South Africa and Democratic Republic of Congo since 2010.

South Africa is faced with overwhelming developmental challenges - education, health, poverty, Human Rights, LGBTs etc. Increasingly, government departments, and agencies are incapable of responding to these challenges due to lack of capacity and leadership, corruption, etc... resulting in slow or no service delivery to the disadvantaged communities (townships and rural areas).

The Outreach Social Care Project- OSCAR will

organize an event on the 23 September 2017 on the Speak Out Campaign with young people in and out of schools in order to educate and prevent bullying, harassment and abuse in LGBT Youth, a comprehensive program of training, education and awareness of bullying, harassment and abuse will follow on the 24 September 2017 to be accomplished through workshops, resource materials and community outreach initiatives in South Africa and Democratic Republic of Congo.

The Outreach Social Care Project believes the empowerment of underprivileged people and households through ongoing support, helping them to access other services, not only sustains them with time, but also gives strength and support to youth.

Thandeka Mbanjwa’s Story: I learned about the OSCAR Project computer project at our school- Nyonithwele Secondary School through OSCAR Project staff and my brother, Khululeko. Although I am older than Khululeko, my parents allowed Khululeko to attend the computer project after school and weekend at OSCAR Project. Their primary reason was that he was a male child and hence will do better in science and technology.

My parents saw a positive change in Khululeko’s attitude to his school work as a result in his participation in the after-school and weekend programs at OSCAR Project. They then encouraged me to register and attend the project. I am very grateful to OSCAR Project and it partner Dell for helping me to be a better young person and demonstrating to my parents that, what boys can do, girls can do...much better.
